Sendandsee transforms the Mobile Internet into a learning environment with its new O [circle] Services. Implements world-leading curriculum, announces first projects and global partners.

Feb 2010

O expands the delivery of educational and educative services to areas and niches that are not reached today.

O focuses on elementary education – the basics of numeracy, literacy, and health information.

O has a strong scientific core that researches data from the services to create mobile and digital learning systems that revolutionize the way people learn.

Education is a fundamental human right and essential for the exercise of all other human rights. It promotes individual freedom and empowerment, gender mainstreaming and yields important development benefits. Yet millions of children and adults remain deprived of educational opportunities, many as a result of poverty.

How to reach those most in need of education? The answer is: by using mobile devices! They are used by over 67% of the total world population at the end of 2009 and 64% of those devices are in developing countries [ITU, 10/2009]! Mobile Internet will be the only Internet and mobile device the only connected device for most people on our planet, making the mobile Internet the only global learning environment. This is the reason why Sendandsee has optimized its patented publishing platform – mobiprint™ – for the delivery of knowledge.

Sendandsee’s approach builds on an innovative combination of existing technology, expert knowledge of mobile service creation, and relationships with key players in the industry and access to world-leading curriculum of Finland [OECD’s PISA assessment]. Sendandsee’s approach also embraces and supports the operator-driven business model.

First O Services are launched in Latin America during early 2010. Other markets will be entered into once suitable partners are found; several African and Asian markets are currently under discussion.

Research and science play an important role in the project. The scientific goal of O is to take the best educational content and transform it into mobile and digital learning services. To reach that goal O combines Culture, Pedagogy, and Technology. To bridge the cultural gap and diversity challenges O partners with researchers from other universities. Dr. Risto Sarvas is the project’s Chief Scientist.

Success in teaching the world to calculate, read, and live healthily by using the mobile device requires a strong network of partners from different industries and geographies.

"We are extremely proud of partners,” says Aape Pohjavirta, Sendandsee's CEO, "Everyone of them understands that there is no exclusivity to education and that in order to succeed we need to partner with market and sector leaders both locally as well as globally.”

Sendandsee is Microsoft’s Empower for ISVs program partner and is securing global support in the areas of business development as well as software development of mobile education solutions on various Microsoft Platforms.

"O Services represent an innovation, where valuable content is combined with technology into a meaningful solution that can make a difference in people’s lives. I’m happy to see our partner innovate solutions that help people to realize their full potential." says Vesa-Matti Paananen, Mobile Business Lead, Microsoft Oy

O Services are also on their way to Afghanistan. Sendandsee and Asia Consultancy Group have signed a preliminary distribution Agreement that enables the delivery of O Services throughout Afghanistan during 2010. The delivery of elementary education wirelessly is a tremendous opportunity for the country where delivery of education has many problems.

"Sendandsee's turnkey educational service concept – from world-leading curriculum to measurement of individual performance – made it easy for us as the leading service provider in the region to move forward.” says Juha Harkonen, COO of Asia Consultancy Group.

Health-related information is developed in co-operation with the World Association for Biomedicine & Technology – WABT – a NGO that is a part of UNESCO’s Science Technology and Society program and active under the UNESCO umbrella. The three main action areas of WABT are Health Technologies, Applied Research, and Medical Education.

Mobile advertising and marketing are included in the service concept and will be delivered in partnership with Smaato, a leading mobile advertising company that operates the mobile ad optimization platform called SOMA™. SOMA’s unique feature is the aggregation of multiple leading mobile ad networks globally to maximize mobile advertising ARPU, extremely important in the new markets that O Services target.
